HISTORY OF CAPE TOWN TYGERBERG FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

In 1990 the WPFA, then affiliated to FASA at that stage celebrated its centenary year (100 years). Number of clubs affiliated to them at that stage was 49.

In 1991 unification came into being and WPFA no longer existed and we were then divided into two Associations, one being FACT and the other being Maitland / Tygerberg FA. At that stage FACT had 14 clubs affiliated to them and Maitland / Tygerberg 25.

In 1993 FACT and Maitland /Tygerberg amalgamated with the blessing of WPSA and Cape Town Tygerberg was formed with 36 clubs affiliated to it.

Their initial home base was a room at a residence in Brackenfell. Later they obtained premises at the Hamilton Road Sports ground. From there they moved to Old Mutual in the Ten Pin Bowling arena, from there they moved to a house at Old Mutual Sports Complex because the building was being demolished to make way for the Old Mutual Business School.

In 2002 the house was then demolished to make way for tennis courts and we moved to the BKB building in Epping.

In 2005 we were then offered premises vacated by a Bowling Club at Rygersdal, where we presently situated. These premises were ideal as far as office space was concerned and meetings could also take place. At present (2012) 46 clubs are affiliated to Cape Town Tygerberg and we also have 5 guest clubs playing in our leagues.

We have approximately 22 000 members registered with the Association
